Starbucks’ Schultz takes bite of Big Apple scene

Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz is buying a condo in Manhattan from Loews Hotels Chief Executive Jonathan Tisch, the New York Post reported last week.

Schultz will pay $25 million to $30 million for his new part-time home at 950 Fifth Ave., an Italian-Renaissance-palazzo style building whose co-op board must approve the transaction, the Post said.

A Starbucks spokesman declined to comment.

Schultz’s new digs are across from Central Park and a short walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, far glitzier surroundings than the Brooklyn housing projects where he grew up.

He and his wife, Sheri, still own a house in Seattle’s Madison Park area.

He also has a house in East Hampton, N.Y., a longtime playground for the rich where he and Sheri hosted a bash this summer featuring singer Sarah McLachlan, according to Hamptons.com.

Coming full circle, CNBC aired an interview this month that Schultz did at his Hamptons home with Tisch, host of “Beyond the Boardroom” and the guy selling the Manhattan apartment.

A short clip from the interview is at http://www.cnbc.com/id/21377403/site/14081545/.
